Creating fun at work

First you may have to give up the notion that professionalism means being serious all the time. It is possible to take yourself lightly and still be competent and productive. Start promoting the benefits of humor at work. How about organizing a fun committee? Imagine the ideas that are possible. Meetings could be a lot more fun, anyone disagree? ( especially if it’s numbers!) Maybe it’s time to invest in a nerf basketball and hoop, squirt guns, funny glasses with the nose, something to shake things up. How about letting your patients know you have a fun office? (shocking, I know) Involve them. I can’t tell you how many patients have mentioned their appreciation for a good laugh and leave the office in great spirits. What about an “Enjoy Work Hour”, this could be a time to discuss only the things your staff enjoys about work, or ideas to make work more fun. Create some games to play, they can be a wonderful way to learn and practice skills while having a good time. Prizes are needed, at my office Starbucks cards and chocolate work like currency. I soon discovered what a competitive bunch I work with!

Funny things happen all the time, if you are obsessed with analytical thoughts it’s hard to stop and respond. Natural spontaneous humor is a blessing. Stop and take a moment to encourage some fun today. What surprises for your staff do you have in mind?
