Are You “High I” or “Low I”?

Message from Terry: To an amazing extent, we create our own atmosphere, an invisible bubble of attitude that colors the way we view the world, and the way the world views us. Shakespeare may have put it best when he stated, in Hamlet, “There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so.” As you prepare for each new day, do you anticipate triumph or trouble? Do you tackle your tasks with energy or dread? Consider these lists of “high I” and “low I” attributes.

People with a positive, “high I” utilize:

  • Integrity
  • Imagination
  • Involvement
  • Inclusion
  • Insight

People with a defeatist, “low I” approach are apt to be:

  • Irritable
  • Insecure
  • Insistent
  • Intolerant
  • Inconsistent

Here are some questions to ponder: Which list best describes how you operate?  Which group do you think accomplishes more? Which group would you rather work with? Best of all, which group do you think is happier?

So take a tip from Shakespeare. To avoid sinking into a “low I” mindset, pick a positive trait from the “high I” list and incorporate it consciously into your day. View it as a challenge. Invite a co-worker to join you, and compare notes throughout the day.

Which trait will you choose?
