Are You Motivating or Manipulating People?

written by Sandy - May 28th, 2010 at 8:30 am

A message from Sandy. —-It all starts with our attitude towards people and the way that we see them. Human relations expert Les Giblin states, “You can’t make the other fellow feel important in your presence if you secretly feel that he is a nobody.” Isn’t this true? Do you find it difficult to do something nice for someone when you really don’t like them? The way that we see people could mean the difference between motivating and manipulating. We manipulate people for a personal advantage, and motivate people for a mutual advantage. (this could be a great opportunity to flex those curiosity muscles)

Don’t we all want to be appreciated as human beings? Adding value to people is a win win situation. Do you see others as potential recipients of value, or regard them as a nuisance in your path? In the book, 25 Ways to Win People  by John C.Maxwell and Les Parrott, Ph.D, they suggest “if you want to add value to people, you have to value them first.”  Are you really seeing people?
