Live now!

Look at our children, they don’t have a care in the world because they live for the moment. I wonder why we don’t learn from them instead of jumping between the past and the future. Can we ever predict exactly what will happen in the next moment? Yet our minds never seem to stop imagining and planning for the future. Someone said, “Are we only concerned with adding days to our life, and forgetting to add life to our days?’ Do we forget that our thinking, feelings, and contentment in the present determine our happiness. Do we take the present for granted? By doing so are we missing out on the beauty and joy of today? Should we make full use of the present before it becomes the past? Joan Rivers said,”Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery and today is a gift, that is the present.” How can we start living in the present?  How could it improve the quality of our lives? What will it take?

One Response to “Live now!”

So wonderful to read this today as I created a new saying for myself on this day. It is: “I’m going to live as I’m young until I’m done” (meaning until this life is done).

Being in the moment, being in awe, living life now, experiencing the vast range of feelings is where we experience the best of life. Keeping our bodies active and flexible, as well as our minds curious and alert, are childlike characteristics.

We observed both of these today as we saw my active 83 year old mother joyfully weeding and tending my office garden. The patients and team members were commenting on her limberness, agility, and wonderful presence that brought happiness to all who were watching her.

We were all truly “in one moment” as we shared this experience. Our steps were lighter and our demeanors calmer. So one answer to “what will it take?” is being observant and appreciative of the opportunities we’re given….and sharing them with others helps!
