Small things forgotten

A lovely concept in the excavation process of an archaeologist is the process of searching for small things forgotten. When you think about it, so much of our life is spent in a variety of commonplace activities. In the small details of our daily lives, home, family, work, and pleasure. We may think it’s the big moments that define our lives, like a wedding, a baby,or a new house. But really, aren’t these big moments of happiness just punctuation marks in our lives? Our stories are written every day in the small, the simple, and the common. In our tiny choices, any tiny changes, in the unconsidered, the overlooked and the discarded. What small things are impacting you and those around you right now?

“There are no little things. Little things are the hinges of the universe.”–Fanny Fern

One of the mysteries of archaeology is the role that chance plays in its discoveries. They say the chain of chance can only lead us to our destiny. It is entirely up to us to choose to transform ourselves, through courage, risk, curiosity, leaps into the dark, and what the heck moments. Are you game?

“We must be willing to get rid of the life we’ve planned, so we can have the life that is waiting for us.”—–Joseph Campbell
