The Yoga of “I”

A message from Terry: How can you keep your “I”Q — your sense of self — strong and flexible? In yoga, it’s essential to stay calm and centered, and to work from a balanced core. In your daily work with your team, self-knowledge is essential to your happiness and productivity. To be authentic, your knowledge of ‘self’ needs to spring from a balanced core, as well.

Nurture a sense of your own value and purpose within the team. If you’re unsure of your role, talk with the team to better define it. Assess your own strengths and the areas where you still need to grow. By honestly assessing your capabilities and potential, you become:

  • more insightful about problem-solving;
  • more agile at juggling logistics;
  • more successful at debriefs; and
  • more trusting and flexible within the team’s structure.

Self-review and reflection makes you better able to learn from experience without feeling threatened or defensive. Safely centered, calmly balanced, you can let go and move on, with an improved ability to self-soothe and self-manage. As your ability to fine-tune your actions and responses improves, your value to the team will soar — and so will your sense of personal satisfaction and fulfillment.

What tips and techniques have helped you improve your “I”Q?
