Finding Common Ground

A message from Terry:  “Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap, but by the seeds you plant.” Robert Louis Stevenson

When it comes to communicating constructively with your team, beware of opinions – they can be overrated. When dental team members fail to communicate about a situation until it’s ready to boil over in a flood of pure emotion, it’s hard to find common ground.

By their very nature, even the best opinions are subjective. When attempts to discuss a problem are met with objections that begin, “I just feel…,” you’re on slippery ground.

The solution? A generous helping of facts and core values. Each new situation is an opportunity to deepen trust, improve communication skills, and establish (or reinforce) an environment in which the whole team can thrive.

Is there a ‘hot spot’ brewing with your team? How might you introduce a cool breeze of calmness and reason?
