A note from Janis ~ I had a coaching call this morning with a new team member who is already feeling the frustration of unclear expectations. The following guidelines are worth revisiting, even with employees who have tenure. Let us know what you think!
- Establish clearly defined performance standards and goals and clarify behavioral expectations. Make sure each employee understands the connection between their performance and organizational success.
- Hire well. Interview skills and well developed assessment instruments are critical to building a successful team of individuals willing and able to achieve target performance goals.
- Provide resources essential to peak performance such as training, technology, and information.
- Evaluate performance on a regular basis. Make sure your employee’s self-assesment is congruent with what you see.
- Provide consistant feedback and on-going coaching to motivate, encourage, maintain momentum and maximize performance
