Accountability Toolkit

Move things forward; identify why things stalled; dismantle roadblocks; identify solutions.

THE ACCOUNTABILITY TOOLKIT

A message from Terry: When you embrace the need for increased accountability, you know that change is within your grasp. As you undertake the early steps of that empowering journey, keep in mind that progress isn’t always linear. If you hit a snag, how will you overcome it? Thinking in advance about how to equip your ‘accountability toolkit’ can make all the difference. Here are four great techniques:

MOVE THINGS FORWARD

Momentum is an excellent ally. When obstacles appear in your path, you may well feel tired and discouraged, but it’s important to press forward – not blindly or recklessly, but with quiet determination.

IDENTIFY WHY THINGS STALLED

You’re sailing along and then – WHAM! – something brings you to a screeching halt. As disheartening as that can be, don’t despair. Instead, take a careful look at the circumstances that brought you to a halt. Naming it is the first step in overcoming it and putting you back on track.

DISMANTLING ROADBLOCKS

When you’re halted by an obstacle in your path, the best response is to dismantle it. If you simply skirt around it, you may find yourself stopped by that same problem again and again. Better to mend what’s broken, remove what’s unnecessary, and/or untangle the knot that keeps things from running smoothly.

IDENTIFY SOLUTIONS

Last but not least, don’t be afraid to brainstorm and think outside the box. Often, your “tried and true” approach is what got you into trouble in the first place! Be open to the possibility of new approaches to solve old problems.

Are you currently struggling to solve a problem and regain your momentum and enthusiasm? Which of these four tools might help you get back on track?
