Start Acting Like A Kid

A message from Sandy. Are you a big kid? Do you enjoy playing practical jokes or the occasional prank once in a while? Do you make a conscious decision everyday to something you enjoy? Really—don’t we take ourselves a little to seriously?
When we were kids we liked to create, take risks, spend time with friends and enjoy life. As adults, it seems we make efforts to look young, but never act young. In fact, having fun is often looked down upon by “serious” types. Having fun is seen as a “waste of time.” As adults, so few of us are fun anymore. Is it any wonder we find the lifestyle of musicians, artists, and actors so attractive? These people have not lost touch with what they enjoyed when they were young.
So what is the solution? Start doing the things you loved as a kid. Paint, play games, play non-competitive sports. Most importantly, bring that attitude to work with you. There are people in your office who need only a single person to show them that work doesn’t have to be all about office politics, meetings, and production. If you bring a fun attitude to work, perhaps others will follow your lead. I bet you will feel less stressed about work and more confident about who you are. If you saw life through a child’s eyes, what would you see? Would you have the courage to follow a different path if it would make you happier?
