The Leaky Umbrella of Life

A message from Sandy. The leaky umbrella— SECURITY. Who hasn’t been the recipients of advice like this?
“What if your business doesn’t work out?” ”How are you going to send your kids to college?”
“Starting a new business is nuts!” “Why take the risk?”
In truth a lot of advice we get is partially accurate, but every single one of these concerns is rooted in fear. When the fear of others end up in the drivers seat, are you really living for yourself?
Growing up, we all had two plans: Plan -A the life you wanted, and Plan -B the contingency plan. At an early age, we are usually convinced by other people that Plan A is unrealistic and you better have a back up plan–aka–Plan B. How many of us agreed it made sense? Years later, Plan A had been washed away, you no longer had two plans—you were living Plan B.
What if you decided to pursue Plan A? Cut down on luxuries, focus on the way you live, rather than what you have. Maybe work fewer hours, or say goodbye to your job, farewell to dining out, and adios to your nicely located abode. Tell Plan B—bye-bye! ( I know, a list a mile long of ”what if’s” just popped into your head—which would lead immediately to worst case scenario!) Life throws us curve balls all the time, this uncertainty is what makes life interesting. It is the hardship, the stories, the camaraderie and the eventual bouncing back that creates those lasting memories. If you think about it, if you are alive and not poverty stricken, or ill—-your “worst case scenario” is another person’s dream come true.
Security breeds more insecurity. Is security an illusion? Is there really such a thing? You trade in the hours of your day -to-day life for the sake of security and do we really feel any more secure? Which leaves us with no real security and limited time. Why waste one on the other? If you have lived the majority of your life in a safe and secure environment–congratulations–I look forward to seeing you on a Harley Davidson as you ride that mid-life crisis into the sunset!
In our society we over-emphasize the importance of security and stability, just take a look at the types of coverage offered by insurance brokers, our obsession with security becomes evident.Think about any event that introduces uncertainty—how does it affect us?
There is no security–really. There is you, and the clock that is counting backwards, you should do all you can–while you can. What will be your memories of pursuing Plan A?
